This cult-classic clamshell phone started life as a fashion phone and has progressed to be an everyman's phone. Also called the V3, the Razr was designed to be sold in low volumes. When it was first introduced, it was the thinnest, which made it all the more prominent. Due to its popularity, it was once called the iPod of cell phones. The first Razrs had 5.5MB of RAM, upgradeable to 10MB, there was no expansion (memory card) slot and a VGA resolution (640x480 pixels) camera. Improvements were included in subsequent models, the V3i and the V3x. Memory was increased to 32MB for the V3i and 64MB for the V3x. The camera was also improved to 1.23 megapixels (V3i) and 2.0 megapixels (V3x). Other improvements included bigger and more widely spaced keys as well as rubber spacers in between keys. Depending on the carrier, the Razr variants can run on GSM, CDMA2000, 3G/UMTS, HSDPA networks. Most of the models from 2006 onwards also include a USB port for uploading and downloading MP3 files and pictures. Late model Razrs also incorporates a feature called Crystal Talk, which was designed to improve telephone audio quality.

Due to the sheer volume of Razrs sold, it is no wonder that there is also a large number of Razrs on the previously-owned mobile phone market. Necessarily, the large number also has a big range of prices depending on the model and the age of the used Razr cell phone. This cannot be avoided, but instead it is possible to take advantage of the big range in prices when choosing a used Razr as a second phone.
