Used PDA Cell Phones
The Apple "Newton" was one of the first personal digital assistant or PDA. Then Apple CEO, John Sculley used the term PDA to describe a small handheld computer (typically pen-based device) which is used for managing an executive's daily tasks. Applications included with a PDA include a calendar, appointment and address book, and a notepad. The PDA has continually evolved with technology. The introduction of the Palm Pilot lead to the popularity and common acceptance of the PDA. The extensibility of PDAs have led to PDA cell phones. This was specially true with early PDA cell phones like the Handspring Visor and the Compaq iPaq. These PDAs had custom accessories which enabled adding cell phone capabilities. The current crop of PDA cell phones however, have the cell phone as a standard feature.
Some examples of currently available PDA cell phones include the Palm Treo, the RIM Blackbrry, the HP iPaq and the O2 XDA. These units are primarily marketed as PDA cell phones and as such their strengths tend toward executive and business use: integrated calendar, appointment book, and contacts database. Internet access have added SMS and MMS capability and connectivity through WiFi, HSDPA, GSM EDGE. Internet browsing is usually done with a built-in browser. Email applications are also included with the cell phone OS and can be synchronized with a PC. Some PDA cell phones also have GPS navigation capability through third-party vendor application and support.
This high-end category of mobile phones has a thriving market in the second hand market. The popularity of used PDA cell phones can also be attributed to the durability of the units. Used PDA cell phones have a higher usage than regular cell phones due in part to the various applications and it is no wonder that these were engineered to handle the day to day use.
